Looker Likes & Dislikes
What I like most about Looker is the accessibility. It doesn't just keep data locked in the hands of analysts, team members who aren't super technical can still navigate dashboards, run filters, and pull insights without constantly waiting on someone else, which in-turn makes collaboration smooth across all departments.
Read Full ReviewUsing LookML to define metadata for fields and tables is amazing, as we are able to generate it via a script developed on our side using the same DBML notation that our ELT tool uses, ensuring that both sides of our analytics infrastructure are always aligned and in-sync. Also, embedding predefined filters in a shareable URL is also a very efficient way to ensure that a stakeholder will see the same output as the person who developed the report is a huge plus.
Read Full ReviewI really like the LookML modelling layer and the integration with other Google products like Google Drive and Google Sheets. Looker is great for developers and offers extensive back-end data features like data testing and data model versioning. The explore functionality is also a really powerful tool to build visualisations but also acts as a SQL code generator.
Read Full ReviewWhile Looker is undeniably powerful, there are a few things that frustrate me as a user. The first is the learning curve. LookML, their modeling language, isn't exactly beginner friendly. Unless you already have a background in SQL or data modeling, it can feel overwhelming. Lastly, pricing isn't very transparent. For smaller teams, Looker can feel expensive compared to other BI tools.
Read Full ReviewThe selection of available visualizations seems not just limited but also antiquated, with a small number of options and some very important charts missing, since the ones available at the marketplace are not very robust and consistent in their end results. Basic visualization options with greater customizability (such as gauges and boxplots) are sorely missing in Looker, making some of the end dashboards look amateur by comparison.
Read Full ReviewLooker can have a steep learning curve because of all the proprietary features like LookML and the explore modelling. The platform is also slow to update with new features and Google is not actively investing in the product road map. Given the large cost I would expect more support from Google and the account reps. Also the AI integration agent is very poor and hard to use.

Clean Visuals Aid Trend Spotting but Looker Complexity May Hinder New Users
Based on my overall experience using Looker, I'd describe it as a powerful business intelligence platform that makes data feel a lot less intimidating. What stood out to me immediately was how customizable the dashboards are, you can build reports that make sense for your role instead of having to adapt to a rigid template. Once everything is set up, the visuals are clean, easy to digest, and incredibly helpful for spotting trends quickly. - STAFF ANALYTICS ENGINEER50M-1B USDServices (non-Government)Review Source
LookML Supports Data Consistency While Visualization Choices Remain Restricted
It is a very solid tool, especially with the possibility of centralizing metadata and definitions with LookML, but the selection of visualizations available is very limited compared to similar tools from other vendors. - SENIOR DATA SCIENTIST50M-1B USDRetailReview Source
Costly Platform With Advanced Capabilities but Limited AI and Feature Updates
Looker is a very comprehensive BI tool that has rich features. The UI is easy to navigate and is great for analysts and power users. However, some smaller companies may struggle to use all the features and justify the large price tag. - LEAD DATA ENGINEER1B-10B USDMediaReview Source
A great solution to BI with a managed semantic layer but limited with visual customizations due to Grid-Based structure
Apart from several limitations, we find Looker to be a great product in terms of governance and ease of use. - Senior Analyst50M-1B USDHealthcare and BiotechReview Source
